Begging For Help With Training.?

I have asked before and apparently its a popular queastion, but I sincerly need some answers. I have a blue heller, who in the house, is a saint. She obeys her commands without hesitation (sit, come, go to bed). The problem is, when she is out of the house, she doesn't even acknowledge me! More seriously, she chases cars, without fear. Now i know this what her breed was breed for but I live close to a mayjor roadway, and twice today, while training in our yard, she has escaped and ran straight for the road and is attacking the cars. (speed limit on road is 45 mph). I tried to remain calm and instruct her to 'come'. clapped hands, commanded 'come'. She is now at this second out chasing cars, my hubby is with her. I am not b/c I refuse to watch her die.

Any advice? and if she makes it, anybody know an awesome dog trainer in the Ft. Leonard Wood, Rolla, area?

Leash train her. Use the leash whenever you are out of the house, give her more freedom on the leash but do your training with her wherever you are, not just inside. Try going out to the sidewalk and doing the training sessions there with the leash. This keeps you in control and allows her to understand that come means come no matter where she is. There are some awesome training books and videos out there. My favorites are by Dr. Ian Dunbar. These contain info on exactly this kind of behavior.
Reply:I had the exact same heeler, and thought a shock collar was cruel. Well, she eventually caught a car, now I no longer have her. I now have a new heeler, and my collar will be here tomorrow. I've talked to several trainers, and these dogs can easily be taught to stop bad behaviors with a little correction at the instant they behavior starts.
Reply:When you take her out put her on a leash or keep her in a securely fenced area. Do your outdoor training on a leash first, then graduate to an invisible lead, and only once she is absolutely reliable, train off leash. Some dogs can will never be reliable off leash. Also, I suggest teaching a command such as "halt" or "stop" so if she escapes and runs for the road, you can stop her in place and have her wait for you to get to her.
Reply:Even if your training in the yard she should be on a very long lead since she runs. She should never be off until she understands the word come. In the beginning always give her a treat as soon as she does what is asked. You also need to take her where the cars are and walk her on the leash to desensitize her to the cars. It will take a while due to her breed but you can do it. It just takes alot of work.
Reply:i would take the dog to a trainer let them do it because it may be out of your controll and i would consider the dogs safety aswell maybe put up a fence if you live on that main road...

i really hope you can fix this problem good luck
