there's a good chance I will be the very proud owner of TWO jack russell puppies (both males) in the next few months! Anyway can yall suggest 2 good books I can buy on puppy training (housebreaking training that WORK, teaching them tricks, getting along, exercise, etc).....I have already picked up "The Loved Dog" after seeing the author on Oprah show -- I will read these books before I get the pups b/c I want to start off as right as possible with their training...thanks for the suggestions in advance!
Puppy training books? suggestions? for jack russell pups!?
"Puppies for Dummies" is a great resource. It's easy to read/understand and divides the chapters into the different phases your puppy will go through as he grows up, what to expect in behavior and how to deal with it. It has great training techniques and ideas on how to raise a well-behaved, healthy pup. As a first-time owner of a new puppy this was the best resource I found. I even passed it on to another friend for her new puppy.
Reply:I don't know any names, but go to your local book store and go to the dog aisle. They have lots of good reference material there. Also, pet stores usually have magazines that are devoted just to one type of breed that give great advice too.
Congrats on your new additions.
Reply:walden books should have this maybe even walmart (but i doubt it)... try K*I*S*S "GUIDE TO LIVING WITH A DOG" its a 'keep it simple series' book that i found by accident at a yard sale. ive had dogs all my life and now have 3 of my own with a 3 year old little boy. this book has ALOT of cool info and helpful tips as well as providing websites to go to for extra help. you can find their complete catalog list at www.dk.com and check it out. hope this helps!
