Which training schedule is better for kali/arnis?

a) one hour six days a week

b) one and a half hours 4 days a week

c) two hours three days a week

d) three hours 2 days a week

my instructor's schedule and mine don't get along very well and after training for almost a year we only meet once a week now. the rest of the week i have to review by myself but i'd like to know which training sched would be most effective but cause me the least muscle/joint strain and other injuries. I've never trained without someone looking out for me before and I don't want to have any stupid injuries this year because i have a tendency to overdo things.

Which training schedule is better for kali/arnis?
Mabuhay Shorea; I'm glad that their are more and more Filipino martial arts members here.

Firsts of, you need to consider what style of teaching he does. Is he more of a traditional or modern? I ask this because traditional training is more into memorization than drills and sparing compared to modern FMA(Filipino martial arts). Back in Philippines, traditional Filipino Martial Artist train almost every day, an average of 2 hours a day. Most of them have jobs so training is less rigorous.Modern FMA is designed for more effective training, meaning it is condensed so 3 days a week and at least 1 1/2 hour is advised. If your school is traditional, training as much as you can is advised.

Second, are you doing this for competition? If so training then for six days for 1 hour is better for you.Competition and sparring is totally different than what is taught in FMA, so treat like you are training for a boxing match(more cardio, better nutrition, foot work practice, etc.).

And finally you must consider your own schedule and lifestyle. My Punong Guro would always say "It is important that beginners not expect instant results. Martial arts techniques takes patience and perseverance - it takes years to become proficient no matter how often you train. You must also balance training with your life. Don't neglect other things due to excessive training."

Good luck to you and train hard.
Reply:As much as you can fit in and withstand!
Reply:Stick with the once a week routine... Arnis is a very good martial art and you don't need extensive training to be really good at it...
