Airforce basic training...?

what was it like? anything that stands out in your mind? things you wished your loved ones would have done for you or things they did that you appreciated?

how about hell week? what would have made that week better(like a letter everyday or something a loved one could do for you)?

and no, i'm not contemplating joining or anything so please don't go on a spiel about how i should not worry about it and just join... i'm asking this b/c my b/f is in basic and i want to be as supportive as possible... i want to know all i can about what he's going through and what i can do for him from here

Reply:Hell Week ? In the Air Force never heard of it.

No reason to put Air Men through hell in basic, the Air Force does little armed combat, mostly are technology type AF SC.

Unless some one is referring to the obstacle course and that's a joke I've been out for a long time and could pass it.
Reply:It was hot, we got up early, we marched a whole bunch, we went to class, we got to know the people in our squadron, we went to church on Sunday. One weekend our TI and three big guys destroyed our dorm and we had 2 hours to put it back together. (we learned teamwork quick like), we marched, it was still hot. We got lots of bruises on the obstacle course (didn't break a nail though), practiced our saluting, smoked cigarettes when we could, and had a lot of fun after it was all over and we realized we made it. Like above, I never heard of hell week.

Reply:In the Canadian (Armed) Forces basic training for persons in "Active Duty" is 14 weeks long. i do not know which military you are asking about, but in Canada all members of the forces go through more or less the same rigorous training program, early mornings late nights and intense physical /mental effort.

the only thing that stands out in my mind is that you have to come at the training with this in mind:

ITS A BIG MIND GAME!

thats all; the objective of the trainers is to break you down mentally in order to rebuild you as a "stronger" person, when i say game i DO NOT mean like a video game, when live rounds are flying above your head is not the time to choose to quit.

all you can ask for from your family is to see you and NOT talk about how worried they are, they just have to be positive. when i did my training i barely saw my family because i was out of town to do it.

i personally think it was better that way, because i had to rely on my comrades for support, when i needed it. but i think if your boyfriend wanted to see you; you should reinforce how strong you think he is, and be there for him.

hell week...just leave him alone, personally i didn't need more stress during "hell week" the whole ordeal was hell, just during that week, they let us have less sleep, so when ever we had down time ex, riding in the truck back from exercise we caught some down time then. rest was all i wanted...

hopefully that helps...i don't know if it will but thats all i have for now
