What are cross-training shoes used for?

I mainly lift weights (3-4 days/wk) and run occasionally, so would cross-trainers work best for me rather than, for example, running shoes? I'm asking b/c I've had my eye on a nice pair of Nike cross-trainers. Thanks in advance!

What are cross-training shoes used for?
cross-trainers are exactly that-cross trainers. They aren't meant for any specific purpose, they are the one-size-fits-all of sport footwear. Running shoes are designed for you to run, and therefore have treads designed for going forwards, and not much variation in movement. Tennis shoes are designed for lots of back and forth, right to left movements, just like you would do in a game of tennis. If you used running shoes to play tennis, you would be sliding all over the court. If you used tennis shoes to run, it would be a very uncomfortable run, and not good on your ankles, or knees. Cross trainers are designed so that they could be used in virually every sporting situation... running... tennis....basketball...cross country running...etc. Because they are designed for all of this, they cant be the best shoe for any one sport. If you only run, running shoes are best. If you only play basketball, basketball shoes are best. If you only play tennis, tennis shoes are best. If you do everything sports-related, and just need a great all-around shoe, go with the cross trainers.

Oh and P.S. best shoes for weight lifting are flat-soled with ankle support (think converse chuck taylor all stars). Those shoes help you keep your balance when you arent using a very wide range of movement... Ex: squats, dead lifts, leg press, bench, incline bench, etc. Most (if not all) weight lifting exercises require solid support that a running shoe would not typically deliver.
Reply:It's a running shoe for "Cross Country" Running (Training), it's not a combination sneaker good for "Everything", like people think.
Reply:Cross-trainers are for cross-dressers in training.
Reply:I think it is just used for running.
