Would you support a federal training and service requirement for unskilled immigrants?

If I have to give tax dollars for immigrant issues, I would like some used this way:

1. Volutary program for young men and women.

2. Up to 6 months of free English instruction with a sitpend.

3. Owe 18 months in Federal Service.

a. Fighting Forrest Fires/Clearing Parks

b. Responding to Natural Disasters.

c. Teaching English if so skilled.

d. Can volunteer for the military.

4. For the total of 24 months we could give citizenship and a GI Bill type benefit.

5. The US will have a more skillful, english speaking, and patriotic immigrant population.

Would you support a federal training and service requirement for unskilled immigrants?
No,

Why do you feel we need to cater to these people?

How about this program:

1. Keep their unskilled butts home

2. Put the tax dollars saved back in our pockets.
Reply:I don't think it should be voluntary. Immigrants are not aliens. They intend to make the US their home. Therefore any program that results in citizenship should be mandatory.

Absolutely no free ANYTHING. You come to the US, learn English. that's one of the hurdles you have to jump through for citizenship. Nobody gave free English lessons to the Chinese, the Japanese, the Germans, the Russians, the Italians, the French, or any of the other immigrants who bult this country. What makes new immigrants so special?

I think a minimum of 4 years of Federal Service should be required of every American, regardless whether they're born here or immigrate and settle here.

There are already programs in place if one so desires to fight forest fires, clean parks, respond to disasters, teaching English.

I think every American citizen should have a 4-year military OBLIGATION.

After they complete the process, they would be citizens. You want to give them a "GI Bll-type" benefit. Then make them reinstate that for the military. When these new citizens get out of the service, they would be entitled to the benefits.

I think you may be missing the point. The United States wants a skilled, English-speaking, patriotic immigrant population. And it already has it.

What the United States doesn't want, and should in no way support, is people who outlaw themselves knowingly and intentionally, and who expect to be rewarded for doing so. There are, and by rights should be, no legal rights for these illegal aliens beyond being deported over the nearest US border.

The difference, according to Webster, between the words "alien" and "immigrant" is one of allegiance. The immigrant gives up his or her allegiance to the country they leave and gives it all the the country into which they immigrate. The support that country. they become citizens in a ceremony in which that change of allegiance becomes official.

An alien has no allegiance to the country in which he or she finds himself or herself. In the case of US aliens, most are not here with any intent to become citizens. Most are here for the free ride. And we're dumb enough to give it to them. And, when we say, "Hey, you're here here illegally. You are, in fact, criminals," they get upset. Why? There's no rational reason, but they don't care. They don't care about the country. I don't know if they even care about Mexico... or wherever they're from. They are not "illegal immigrants." They are criminals. They are guilty. There is no defense. The very fact that they're breathing air within the borders of the United States and have circumvented the paperwork that allows legal immigration and visitation, makes them criminal. And to, in any way, intimate that we might even consider aiding them in their illegal activity is at best naive.

The already cost us tax money. They get Social Security, never having paid into it. They cost through the nose in non-tax money. Because they can't or don't pay for services, they get them for free. But services cost money. Who do you thinks pays for them. Your doctor bills, you dental bills are high, not so much because the doctor or dentist is making a lot of money, but because he has to treat so many people who do not pay.

Since this country was founded, immigrants have left everything to come to this country. Generations of them have toiled and died to build it, and to defend it. Citizenship should be considered a labor of love. It should not be considered a gift, or a right, or a benefits package, nor should it be subsidized.
Reply:This idea still doesn't address the issues of "illegal" immigration. Some of you continue to ignore the word "illegal". I don't agree with this idea, due to the fact that these criminals didn't get in line, but crossed our borders "illegally" ahead of everyone else who is trying to get here the correct way. This means they should not be awarded any benefits of becoming an American citizen until they go back to where ever they came from %26amp; do it the correct way also. As for free training... Why should our tax dollars go to anything free. Our government won't even foot the bill for it's own people, so why should we (American citizens) foot the bill for people that break our laws %26amp; disrespect our flag.
Reply:no. if we let them work they should fend for themselves just like everyone else.
Reply:NO to all of it, use the money to round them up and deport them. Build the fence and guard the border, we have spent enough money on them. They tell us that the price of fruit and veggies will go up. I just saw water melons $9.00, how much are these illegals gettin paid?

If it were up to me, get them all out of the country as fast as possible!
Reply:Why would you.
Reply:You're already catching flack from the conservative boobery, but your idea has merit.

I'm especially fond of the national service requirement and language training.

If we don't make the mistake of electing another retributive Republican next year this could easily become addendum to the current immigration bill.
Reply:No, why in the world would we want to use USA tax payers money to educate immigrants . If they can not support themselves why would we want them. We need to use the money to care for our own.
